FC Platinum’s winless streak in the second half of the season stretched to three games Saturday after they were held to a goalless draw by Caps United at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane.
The defending champions were under pressure to collect maximum points at home following a loss and draw to ZPC Kariba and Yadah FC, respectively, in their last two league encounters.
Caps United were also in the hunt for three points after they dropped two points at home against Bulawayo Chiefs.
Lloyd Chitembwe bolstered his team, giving inspirational captain Hardlife Zvirekwi a starting berth after his recovery from the tragic accident which almost cut his playing career short.
Former Zimbabwe international Method Manjwali also forced his way into the starting line-up partnering Stephen Makatuka at the back for Makepeke.
The game got off to a flier with the home side dominating in the first 10 minutes but once Caps United settled, both teams took turns to attack but without any fruitful results.
In the second half Mapeza made three offensive substitutions, bringing in his latest acquisition Thomas Chideu, as well as Charles Sibanda and Gift Mbweti but they failed to provide the goals.
United thought they had taken the lead in the 73rd minute when they caught FC Platinum on the counter and John Zhuwawo slotted home but referee Pedzisayi Chadya adjudged that he was in an offside position.
In the end both team could not be separated and FC Platinum’s poor record against Caps United continued as they have failed to defeat them with their last win coming in 2014.
Elsewhere, at the National Sports Stadium Yadah’s resurgence continued when they beat Black Rhinos 2 -1 to end the army side’s good run of form.
At Luveve Stadium, Bulawayo Chiefs came from a goal down to destroy cross town rivals Bualwayo City by four goals to one.
In the Midlands Derby, Shurugwi based Nichrut Football Club edged Shabanie Mine by one goal at Ascot Stadium while Harare City and Chapungu drew nil all.
