IT’S one of those weekends when the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is overshadowed by national team assignments!
The Young Warriors play Swaziland in the first round, first leg at Rufaro on Sunday while the women’s team faces Zambia in Lusaka on the same day.
Nonetheless, there is no doubt that a few matches will be eye catching to most fans not interested in the Warriors after the senior national team was thrashed 4-2 by Namibia in Rustenburg in the Cosafa Cup.
First up on Saturday, table-toppers Chicken Inn are at the Colliery against Hwange hoping to maintain their lead at the top if results at Gibbo between Triangle and How Mine go their way. Triangle remain unbeaten at home and How Mine have been struggling.
Chapungu, fourth on the log after a poor start but unbeaten in the last seven, host Flame Lily at Ascot while Buffaloes welcome Harare City to Sakubva.
Then there is Highlanders’ battle with home demons at Barbourfields on Sunday where they host Whahwa where they hope to put their campaign back on track.
Bosso have lost three times at 1-0 to Chapungu and Caps United and 2-1 to Chicken Inn last Saturday and these are not pleasing stats for under-fire coach Bongani Mafu.
He said: “I appeal to the crowd to understand the boys on the pitch.
“All the boys on the pitch need full support but the boys on the pitch need to support the crowd outside by giving them a positive result.”
On Sunday, Caps United travel to Rusape for a date with winless Dongo Sawmill while Dynamos face Tsholotsho at Rufaro 24 hours later.
Saturday: Chapungu v Flame Lily (Ascot Stadium), ZPC Kariba v FC Platinum (Nyamhunga Stadium), Buffaloes v Harare City (Sakubva Stadium), Hwange v Chicken Inn (Colliery Stadium)
Sunday: Highlanders v Whawha (Barbourfields Stadium), Triangle v How Mine (Gibbo Stadium), Dongo Sawmill v Caps United (Vhengere Stadium)
Monday: Dynamos vs Tsholotsho (Rufaro)
