THE Premier Soccer League (PSL) has postponed Highlanders FC’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture against Chicken Inn following the tragic death of three senior Bosso executives in a road traffic accident.
The match had been scheduled for Sunday but has been postponed to allow the Bulawayo giants time to mourn the loss of club chairman Retired Colonel Kenneth Mhlophe, vice-chairman Sifiso Siziba, and treasurer Nkani Khoza.
The trio died in a road accident about 60 kilometres from Bulawayo along the Gweru-Bulawayo Highway while returning from Kariba, where Highlanders had played ZPC Kariba on Wednesday.
In a statement, the PSL expressed its condolences to Highlanders FC and the bereaved families.
“The Premier Soccer League advises all stakeholders that the Castle Lager PSL fixture between Highlanders FC and Chicken Inn FC scheduled for Sunday 26 July 2026 has been postponed following the passing of PSL Vice Chairman, Rtd. Col. Kenneth Mhlophe, Highlanders FC Vice Chairman, Sifiso Siziba and Treasurer, Nkani Khoza.
“We call upon all clubs and football stakeholders to officially observe a moment of silence in respect and honour of their legacy before the commencement of all Matchday 25 fixtures,” read part of the PSL statement.
The league also directed all clubs to wear black armbands during Matchday 25 in honour of the deceased officials.
“All clubs are requested to participate in this tribute by wearing black armbands during the weekend matches,” the PSL added.
Mhlophe was one of Zimbabwe’s longest-serving football administrators and a respected figure at Highlanders.
He held several leadership positions at the club before being elected chairman in 2018, serving until 2021. He returned to the post in February 2024, beginning his second stint as Bosso chairman, a position he held until Thursday’s tragedy.
