Renowned comedian Carl Joshua Ncube heads for Ivory Coast

STAND-UP comedian Carl Joshua Ncube will, for the first time, perform at this year’s 9th Edition of the Market for African Performing Arts (MASA) which runs from the 5th to the 12th of March in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Carl will be performing his English stand-up comedy show before the predominantly French speaking audience.
He becomes the second Zimbabwean to perform at the festival after Zimbabwe’s music ambassador Oliver Mtukudzi featured there in 1997. 
Speaking to after receiving the news that he has been accepted, Carl said its’ high time Zimbabwean stand-up comedy went beyond the country’s borders.
“I am really excited about the Ivory Coast invitation,” Carl told 
“The festival accepted my application to do an English stand-up comedy. It will be a great opportunity for me to also throw in trace amounts of French.
“We have always believed that it is important to push the boundaries of where Zimbabwe stand-up comedy can go and this is one opportunity to do so.”
Other categories that will be at MASA 2016 are storytelling, dance music and theatre.
According to the chief executive officer of the MASA festival, Professor Yacouba Konatey, more than 68 000 people are expected to visit this year’s event.
In the MASA Village, there will also be 50 restaurants, 50 stall of artisans and 100 other professional stands.Advertisement
