RUNDE Rural District Council in Zvishavane has proposed the building of a fuel station to enhance its revenue base becoming the first local authority to embark on such a project.
The rural council intends to have the service station constructed at Siboza business centre, 20 kilometres along the Zvishavane-Gweru road.
“The committee (finance) has noted that council can generate income for itself by building a filling station at Siboza,” reads part of minutes of a full council meeting held this month.
According to the finance committee, council had to approach financial institutions that have shown interest in funding council projects to borrow money for the fuel station.
Councillors noted that the RDC was not benefitting much from mineral resources in the district (Zvishavane) and should therefore look into alternative sources of income to sustain its operations.Advertisement
