SOUTH Africa: Maritzburg United have decided against signing Zimbabwean striker John Zhuwawu.
Maritzburg had lined up Zhuwawu as a replacement for his compatriot Evans Rusike, who was sold to SuperSport United last month.
However, club coach Fadlu Davids confirmed the deal has fallen through.
“No, we not signing him and we’ll inform him about the decision,” said Davids.
Rusike was a key performer for the Team of Choice, scoring 21 goals in 80 outings.
Davids admits his side, who will face Swallows FC in the Nedbank Cup last-32 at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday, will have to tweak their approach going forward.
“We have to change things now that Rusike is gone and find different ways, find different formations, different structures to be able to score goals,” he said.
“But to get to the next round the most important thing is to get the victory and of course also use it as preparation for upcoming games.
“Of course I can say that we lost Rusike in this transfer window and we cannot replace Rusike. But we have to find attacking options, as I have said, probably at the end of the season to be able to compensate for that.”
Maritzburg chairman Farook Kadodia has challenged Mohau Mokate and Andrea Fileccia to step up their efforts upfront following Rusike’s exit.Advertisement
