SOUTH Africa: Orlando Pirates striker Tendai Ndoro is leading the race for the Golden Boot, with Cape Town City captain Lebogang Manyama hot on his heels at the halfway stage of the season.
Zimbabwean hitman Ndoro has 11 goals from 13 league starts, three more goals than offensive midfielder Manyama.
Ndoro’s blistering start to the campaign saw him become the second quickest player to reach double figures in PSL history behind Zambian ace Chris Katongo.
SuperSport United forward Jeremy Brockie – the top scorer in all competitions in 2015/16 with 18 goals – and Polokwane City’s Rodney Ramagalela are next in line with five goals apiece.
Brockie’s teammate Thabo Mnyamane has struck four times, as has Mamelodi Sundowns’ Percy Tau, Thokozani Sekotlong of Free State Stars, Ajax Cape Town veteran Nathan Paulse and Platinum Stars duo Benson Shilongo and Robert Ng’ambi.
Collins Mbesuma, who won the award last season with 14 goals (15 in all competitions), has netted thrice this campaign for relegation-threatened Highlands Park. ‘Ntofontofo’ is currently making his way back from minor knee surgery.
