SABLES head coach Brendan Dawson has named an experienced squad ahead of his team’s contact session against the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
The 22-man squad will play in four 20-minute chukkas against the South African Currie Cup side at the Toyota Stadium starting at 10 am.
Pumas star Tapiwa Mafura is the only uncapped player in the Sables squad after being named at fullback in his first appearance in Zimbabwean colours.
The 25-year-old utility back will be playing in familiar territory as he had a successful stint at the Toyota Stadium during the 2019-2020 season.
Experienced scrum-half Hilton Mudariki will captain the Sables in the warmup match which they are using to prepare for the World Rugby quadrangular series which begins next weekend.
The quadrangular series which is being played at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sports will also feature Brazil, Kenya, and Namibia.
Zimbabwe will face Brazil in their first match on November 14 while Kenya tackle Namibia on that same day.
Winners of the two matches will meet in the final on 20 November with the losers also going up against each other in the third-place playoff.
Kenya, Namibia, and Zimbabwe are using the quadrangular series to prepare for next year’s 2023 Rugby World Cup final qualifier to be held in France.
