Saints target Hippo Valley franchise

FORMER champions Zimbabwe Saints have set their sights on acquiring the franchise of disbanded Hippo Valley.
Saints who have been plying their trade in the Southern Region Division One League last played in the PSL in 2011.
They have begun moves on snapping the franchise of Hippo Valley who were promoted from the Eastern Region Division One League but undone by their owners Tongaat Hulett have expressed incapacity to bankroll the team in the top-flight league together with sister club Triangle.
Saints organizing secretary, Jabulani Chinyangarara, said they have already opened negotiations with Hippo Valley.
“Nothing has come out at the moment but we are currently in talks with Hippo Valley. What I can only say now is that discussions are going on very well and we hope to seal something in the near future. We cannot talk of nothing concrete having come out of the talks at the moment but it is promising,” Chinyangarara said.
Saints are one of the traditional clubs in Zimbabwe and enjoyed success in the 1970s and 1980s.
Their last Premiership dance was not on pitch merit but courtesy of acquiring the franchise of the now-defunct Eagles.
Eastern Region runners-up Mutare City are also waiting under the wings to be awarded the Hippo Valley slot if there are no takers to the franchise.Advertisement
