Shabanie Mine coach John Phiri is contemplating on signing former Orlando Pirates and Warriors defender Zvenyika Makonese.
Makonese has been training with Shabanie for the past two weeks as he seeks to retrace his roots at the club which afforded him an international chance.
The 36-year-old defender is club-hunting after being rejected by How Mine and Highlanders, pre-season.
“I am yet to make my mind in him. I am sure by the end of this week I would have made my mind. I am still having a look at him,” said Phiri.
“You know Zvenyika is a big name and a very experienced player who can contribute a lot to any team. Let me just assess him this week.”
However, sources at Shabanie say club chiefs are blocking Makonese’s signing as his last stint at the club was not fruitful.
Makonese’s last competitive action was at Shabanie in 2011 after he was offloaded by Orlando Pirates.
Mpumalanga Black Aces registered interest in him the following year but could not process his papers before spending last year on the side-lines again.Advertisement
