Six die in Kwekwe road accident

SIX people have died while seven others were injured at the 15 kilometre peg along Kwekwe-Gokwe Road following a head-on-collision.

Both drivers died on the spot according to National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

“Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which six (6) people were killed whilst seven (7) others were injured at the 15 kilometre peg along Kwekwe-Gokwe Road on 21st May 2023 at about 1800hours,” said Nyathi.

A Nissan NP300 with three passengers on board, which was travelling towards Kwekwe, was involved in a head-on-collision with a Honda Fit vehicle with eight passengers on board, travelling in the opposite direction.

“As a result of the accident, both drivers and two passengers died on the spot whilst two other passengers died on admission at Kwekwe General Hospital,” he said.

Amongst those who have so far been identified by their next of kin are Edward Mutimbu (40) a Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, Headquarters officer, Tafadzwa Chikore (24) of Zhombe Business Centre, and Anna Muzeziwa (42) of Zhombe Mission Hospital.

The three other victims are yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital Mortuary for post mortem whilst the five injured are admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital and the other two at Gweru General Hospital.
