THE Sports and Recreation Commission has suspended the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board with immediate effect.
The suspension comes ahead of ZIFA’s elective congress set for March 2022.
It also follows Zimbabwe’s disastrous World Cup 2022 campaign, which resulted in the warriors anchoring the group previously thought to be easily passable.
SRC confirmed the development on its official Twitter handle Tuesday, but did not divulge further information.
The commission wrote, “SRC suspends ZIFA Board, more to follow”.
The ZIFA board is led by Felton Kamambo who has been dragged to court on several occasions facing graft charges.
More importantly, the suspension is likely to attract severe sanctions from the world football governing body FIFA which does not tolerate government interference in football matters.
A FIFA ban could see the Warriors being barred from participating in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be held in Cameroon early next year.
