DENDERA musician Sulumani Chimbetu will likely be releasing half of his much awaited DVD on Friday at Book Cafe in Harare.
This is yet another postponement after the musician initially failed to meet his set deadline of before Christmas 2013.
Earlier this year, announcing the band’s January schedule, Joe Nyamungoma, Sulu’s publicist said they had penned the release for January 15 at Jazz 105.
But on Tuesday Nyamungoma said they have moved the release to Friday January 17.
“The plans have not gone as we had initially wanted so we have had to reschedule again to Friday,” said Nyamungoma.
“We are finishing up on what is remaining and we are likely to release half of the DVD.”
He said they are through with shooting for the songs Batai Munhu which features Jah Prayzah, Njiva, Nesu and Nhambarakishoni.
Nyamungoma also spoke on the change in management dispelling rumours that Trevor Jakachira had been fired.
“What happened is Knowledge Nkoma has been elevated to assistant manager so as to ensure smooth running of the show business,” he said.
“Jakachira is a great manager but he is also a businessman who has a business to run and cannot be available every day.
“Nkoma is always there with the band as he is the lead guitarist making the managerial job easier.”
Nkoma was demoted in 2012 when Jakachira took over.
Nkoma’s tenure was turbulent with a number of promoters complaining of unfair practice while unconfirmed reports said he had become more powerful than the band owner.
In December however a Harare paper reported that Jakachira had duped a number of local promoters.
Although it could not be substantiated, the band leadership is said to have had meetings at the weekend which resulted in the appointment of Nkoma as the assistant manager.
Sources in the camp say Jakachira has been sitting on the DVD project which was due for release before December 25 2013.
