Sulu underwhelms with DVD launch

DENDERA musician Sulumani Chimbetu last Friday failed to convince the market with the launch his unfinished DVD.
The musician’s management had promised they would release four videos off the Syllabus DVD as shooting had not gone according to schedule at their show at Book Cafe.
But that was not to be as only two videos for Njiva and the hit song Sean Timba were released at the event. The quality of the videos are also questionable considering the magnitude to which the album Syllabus propelled him.
A promoter in the capital who spoke on conditions of anonymity said Sulu has to set clear roles for his managers.
Sulu re-appointed guitarist and long serving member of the Orchestra Dendera Kings Knowledge Nkoma to managerial position after having been demoted in 2012.
The appointment, Sulu’s camp said, was to assist Trevor Jakachira the incumbent manager as he was too committed with other business at his National Eye offices where he holds a top post.
But the promoter said the set-up is cloggy.
“The new set up does not work in my view. You cannot have two managers who apparently have the same role because simple politics will lead to sabotage,” he said.
“There is too much confusion in the camp so Sulu must define roles to ensure a smooth running.”
It could not be ascertained when the DVD would be availed with the promoter saying he feared show organisers who did not work cordially with Jakachira will likely face challenges with Nkoma.
Jakachira was seen at the band’s two shows at Book Cafe and Mushandirapamwe Hotel in Highfield and he cut a lonely figure at the later.
On Friday the band has an uphill task performing alongside top rival Alick Macheso at Pamuzinda Highway Escape at a gig dubbed First gig of the year.
The show also features Munya Mataruse and chanter Killer T who will provide the diversity.Advertisement
