SOUTH African Premiership giants Mamelodi Sundowns have rejected a multimillion rand bid from an unnamed club in Eastern Europe for Zimbabwe international forward Khama Billiat.
Billiat is arguably in the best form of his career at the age of 26, and it comes as no surprise that there has been increased interest from abroad for the player. The Warriors star was voted the 2015/16 Absa Premiership Player of the Season.  
The midfielder has developed his game greatly under the mentorship of Pitso Mosimane and has contributed immensely to the Brazilians’ success both locally and on the continent thus far.
In saying that, indications are that the club is reluctant to let a player of Billiat’s calibre leave the club without getting their asking price.
Reports from the South African media suggest the Brazilians-as Sundowns are affectionately known-have rejected a bid of just over R25 million for Billiat.
Earlier reports had suggested that Egyptian giants, Al Ahly, would be willing to table a figure of R17.8 million for the attacking midfielder, which Sundowns deemed insufficient as they are looking to cash in on close to R37.2 million.
Billiat has also been linked with clubs in France and Germany but nothing is yet to materialise. Observers, though, believe he will be snapped up in Gabon where scouts from all over the world will be looking for talent at Africa’s greatest football showcase.
The Zimbabwean international played a key role to help the Warriors secure qualification for the 2017 African Cup of Nations finals to be held in Gabon in January next year with crucial goals and assists.
It is the third time for Zimbabwe to make it to the biennial soccer showcase since independence after appearances in Tunisia in 2004 and Egypt (2006).Advertisement
