Suspected CIO agents pursue former army boss who challenged Mnangagwa’s term extension

Date:

SUSPECTED State security agents from the feared Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) have been pursuing and trailing Air Marshall (Rtd) Henry Muchena, a former army boss who challenged the passing of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3).

Muchena, on Friday released videos of unidentified vehicles tailing him from home to town and revealed his family was also being followed around.

He represented disgruntled former army generals and other senior civil servants who were totally against Mnangagwa’s decision to extend his second and final term in office from 2028 to 2030.

Having met twice over the matter, Muchena finally revealed that they had been given a direct challenge and told “whoever wins, wins” by Mnangagwa.

According to Muchena, occupants of the two vehicles that trailed his wife on Friday did not even bother to engage police officers called to intervene. They simply closed their tinted windows and proceeded with their mission.

“What happened today is that my wife went to town early. These anonymous people in a convoy of three cars then followed me to town,” Muchena told local investigative paper, NewsHawks.

“On some occasions they have been tailing my wife directly. When in town around Third Street and Tongogara, she called police and they went to the cars, but the occupants did not run away; instead they just closed their (tinted) windows.

“They then picked my wife’s trail from town to Malborough and then Glen Lorne. Right now, they are parked where there was Food Lovers (Coconut Lounge) on corner Emmerson Mnangagwa Road (Enterprise Road) and Glen Helen Road in Glen Lorne.

“That’s where they have been parking for the past three days. The whole day they were following us for the third day.

“They are using a convoy of three cars, it’s now almost like an unsolicited motorcade for us.”

Muchena, whose decision to openly challenge Mnangagwa was saluted, said they will not however quickly point to the CIO.

He added: “For now we just suspect they are criminals, until we know clearly who they are. It has become very worrying because we are not sure who is behind this.”

In the video a Toyota GD6 and Honda Vezel followed him around without even trying to make it a secret.
