Images of three suspected thieves being forced to eat raw maize cobs after being caught stealing the cereal from a field have gone viral on social media.

In the video, the three have visible swells on their faces, signs they had been beaten up before being forced to munch their loot.

The origins of the video and where it was shot could not be readily verified.

Police have warned however against the public meting out instant justice against alleged offender.
