Teenagers in movie-style armed robbery at mine

Date:

POLICE in Mashonaland East province have arrested two teenagers who were part of an armed gang that orchestrated a movie-style robbery at a mine in Mutawatawa.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“On April 9, 2026, police in Mutawatawa acted swiftly, tracked down and arrested two 17-year-old male suspects in connection with a robbery case which occurred on the same day at a quarry mine in Svisviro village, Maramba,” said Nyathi.

“The suspects, together with two accomplices who are still at large, allegedly pounced on the mine and disarmed a security guard who was on duty, taking his shotgun before assaulting and stabbing him on the head with a knife.

“They then attacked a second complainant who had woken up to assist the first complainant, stabbing him once on the head, before tying both victims with an electric cable.

“The suspects went on to steal two iPhone 12 Pro Max mobile phones, an Apple laptop, a jackhammer, 10 black fan belts, an electric grinder, several electrical cables and US$290 in cash. They also stole approximately 1,095 litres of diesel before fleeing the scene in their getaway plateless Nissan Hard Body pickup,” he added.

Police have since recovered the stolen diesel, electric cables, grinder, fan belts, jackhammer and the suspects’ getaway vehicle.
