THEATRE in The Park under Rooftop Promotions and a local civic organisation will, this week, kick-off a weekly programme titled ‘State of The Nation’ whose aim is to discuss news headlines and topical issues.
The first show will take place this Thursday and will be hosted by theatre guru Daves Guzha and stand-up comedian Doc Vikela.
Guzha, Rooftop Promotions Producer, said each State of The Nation show will pick a different topic and they will liaise with policy makers such as Councillors, government Ministers, civil society and Church leaders among others who will be invited to the stage and share their views on the events of the week.
“Its major thrust is it pushes for dialogue to flourish in these times. The model is Dare/Enkundleni where all issues are discussed for the sustained health of the community,” said Guzha.
“We call this ‘Citizen Engagement with Government’, giving agency to the voter’s voice demanding accountability.”
According to Guzha, Theatre in The Park’s intention is to stimulate the debate in Zimbabwe during a critical time of its history.
“Our new venue is equipped for live theatre performances, but also live-streaming via various social media platforms and mobile applications. The debate will also be joined by people from all corners of the world via social media,” he said.
State of the Nation will be a regular Saturday programme exploring the week’s news and topical issues using comedy and arts while providing a space for dialogue between citizens and policymakers, popular figures, women leaders, personalities, opinion makers, leaders, civil society, local council authorities and members of the international community.
Guhza said politicians who are fingered in particular issues during the week will be invited to give their side of the story at the Park.Advertisement
