CHAMPIONS Caps United have suffered a major blow ahead of their Caf Champions League preliminary round first leg tie against Lesotho’s Lioli amid revelations that their 2016 Golden Boot winner and soccer star of the year finalist Leonard Tsipa has not been registered for the prestigious tournament.
The big striker, who turned 35 on January 25, this year, was left out of the squad registered by Caps United as he was club hunting in Tanzania when the Green Machine registered their players.
A Caps United official revealed to on Tuesday that Tsipa will not be part of the squad travelling to Lesotho on Friday.
“Tsipa will not be travelling to Lesotho. He wasn’t registered for this tournament. If you remember, he was away when registration was done, he was club hunting in Tanzania and the club could not register someone who had not committed himself,” said the official who asked not to be named.
The Green Machine are expected to travel to Lesotho on Friday.
The match has been scheduled for Saturday in Maseru’s 25 000-seater Setsoto Stadium at 1600hrs local time.
Tsipa, however, is expected to play a part in the domestic campaign set to kick off in April.
United will now be banking on the services of Simba Nhivi and Dominic Chungwa among other forwards.
