Uhuru Cup prize money increased

ZIFA have announced a 50% increase in the prize money for the Independence Cup tournament with the winners of this year’s edition pocketing $15,000.
The final of the tournament, between defending champions Dynamos and FC Platinum, is scheduled for the National Sports Stadium on Friday.
Bitter rivals Highlanders and Harare City are set to battle it out for the third and fourth place at Barbourfields Stadium on the same day.
The government has, through the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), availed $50,000 for the annual tournament, the same amount they put last year.
Last term, Dynamos pocketed $10 000 after beating old foes Highlanders to win the tournament.
It was the seventh time they have done so since the competition’s inauguration in 1983. For finishing as runners up in the tournament, Highlanders took home $8 000.
However, there is a remarkable increase in the purse this year.
Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela said the winners would get $15,000 while the runners-up would receive $10,000.
The winner in the match between Highlanders and Harare City will walk away $7,000 richer with the losing team getting $5,000.
The remaining $13,000 of the total package will go towards administration costs.Advertisement
