UK: Zimbabwean music lovers here had a memorable Easter weekend as the country’s finest artists put up memorable performances to sell-out crowds in Leicester and London.
Organised by Y2K Promotions, this year’s Southern African Music and Arts Festival (SAMA Fest) kicked off in London Friday, winding up in Leicester Saturday where revellers packed the 3,000-capacity sports arena.
First on stage in Leicester was remarkable and indefatigable Fungisai Zvakavapano who delivered on her pre-show promise of “the best of me … from 2001 to this day”.
Fungisai was followed by the inimitable Oliver Mtukudzi who wowed the crowd as wife Daizy joined him on stage.
ZimDancehall royalty and crowd favourite Winky D followed, effectively blowing the roof off the place, before man-of-the-moment Jah Prayzah signed off the night.
