UNBEATEN ZPC Kariba will be without veteran striker Pride Tafirenyika when they tackle leaders Highlanders in a top of the table Castle Lager Premiership clash at Gwanzura Stadium on Sunday.
Tafirenyika has been suspended after accumulating three yellow cards and his coach Saul Chaminuka admits this will affect his game plan.
“I wanted him for the match, but suspensions are part of the game. I have Artwell Nyamiwa and Limited Chikafa so I think we are still strong enough to face Highlanders.
“Our target remains the same, we want to avoid relegation. Highlanders are under pressure because they want to win the league title so we will just play our normal game and hope for the best,” Chaminuka said after the team’s training session at Callies on Thursday.
ZPC and Highlanders are both unbeaten in six starts this season and share the lead with 12 points but the Bulawayo giants have a superior goal difference.
Last weekend, the two teams scored nine goals between them-Highlanders thumped Caps United 4-0 while ZPC crushed Triangle 5-1.
Highlanders are unlikely to be with head coach Kelvin Kaindu, who had still not arrived from the United Kingdom where he had gone to complete his UEFA B course, but assistant coach Mark Mathe says all is in order.
“We are preparing for the game just like any other and we are looking at all the players that are available for this match. We have a number of injuries that the team doctor is looking at and we will get clearance by Friday before we travel,” Mathe said.
Milton Ncube has been missing in the last two matches due to a hip injury while Rahman Kutsanzira hobbled out of the Caps match last week and Bruce Kangwa played with a heavily bandaged hand against the Green Machine.
Against Caps, Bosso relied on a mobile midfield that had Charles Sibanda, Eric Mudzingwa, Welcome Ndiweni and the wing pair of Kuda Mahachi and Kutsanzira that starved the Caps front line of supply and were quick on the break.
That pace will come in handy against the squad of veterans at ZPC, who will be playing their seventh away game as their stadium is not yet ready, that include David Rediyoni, Chikafa, Norman Togara and Caleb Masocha.
