Warriors beat Gabon in CHAN prep

WARRIORS coach Ian Gorowa was left a satisfied man after his charges beat fellow Orange Africa Nations Championship finalists Gabon 2-0 in a friendly match at Rand Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
This was Zimbabwe’s second friendly ahead of the finals after they beat Mozambique 2-1 in December in Bulawayo, but Gorowa is convinced on the attitude of the players.
“I will give it to them; they responded very well to what we have been doing in training for the last three weeks and could have scored more goals. I am happy about their physical condition as well and I am looking forward to the opening match on Sunday,” Gorowa said.
The Warriors scored through Donald Ngoma who netted in the first half after heading home an Ali Sadiki cross before Milton Ncube added a second five minutes from time.
The Warriors then left Johannesburg on Wednesday morning for their base in Cape Town where they will play the local side on Thursday to wind up their preparations.
Zimbabwe will get their campaign underway on Sunday against Morocco before engaging Uganda on January 16. The last group match is against Burkina Faso on January 20, but by then, Gorowa’s men would hope to have wrapped up their place in the quarterfinals.
The third Orange African Nations Championship kicks off on Saturday 11th January with South Africa versus Mozambique match to be followed by Mali versus Nigeria. Both games will take place at Cape Town’s Greenpoint Stadium.
The CHAN 2014 final will be held at the same venue on Saturday 1st February.
