THE Warriors-Gabon friendly international has been slated for Rand Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday as Zifa are also courting Ajax Cape Town for a practice match.
Zifa had been battling to secure the venue for their last preparatory match before the Chan tournament and the South African Football Association offered them Rand Stadium.
“We leave Zimbabwe on 6 January and we play Gabon the following day at 1530hrs at the Rand Stadium. Gabon gave us final confirmation so it is all systems go,” said Warriors manager Shariff Mussa.
The team will then leave for Cape Town, their Group B base on 8 January and are trying to secure their final friendly with Ajax Cape Town.
Zimbabwe had been scheduled to play Libya in Harare on Friday but the match was called off after the South Africans could not secure flexible travelling arrangements to Harare.
“Since we missed out on Libya we are trying to engage Ajax Cape Town. The coaches had planned to have two matches this year before the tournament so we hope the Ajax match materialises,” Mussa said.
Zimbabwe are pooled in Group B with Morocco, Burkina Faso and Uganda.Advertisement
