Marange: A local man Sunday ran amok and killed his wife with a log after he saw her talking to another man near the couple’s matrimonial home.
Police confirmed the incident saying they have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who is still on the run.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said the suspect, Oliver Mutafi of Murahwa village under Chief Marange arrived home at around 2100 hours from Mutsago business centre and discovered that his wife was not there.
Mutafi asked his daughter about the whereabouts of her mother to which she said she was not in the know.
It is reported that Mutafi became agitated and began looking for his wife outside their homestead.
After walking for about 500 metres, Mutafi reportedly saw his wife standing with another man.
The man is said to have vanished into the darkness upon seeing Mutafi.
This did not go down well with Mutafi who picked a log and repeatedly struck his wife all over the body.
A neighbour, Rudo Mutsago heard the deceased Rosemary Mutafi screaming for help and rushed to the scene.
When Mutsago arrived, she discovered that Rosemary was breathing heavily and she later succumbed to the injuries.
After discovering that his wife was dead, Mutafi fled from the scene, leaving Mutsago watching helplessly.
Police have since launched an appeal for any information that may lead to Mutafi’s arrest.
“As police, we are appealing to members of the public who might have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect to report to any nearest police station,” said Kakohwa.
He warned members of the public against taking law into their own hands, saying “they will face the full wrath of the law”.
“If people have disputes, they should approach elders or counsellors in their community for recourse,” said Kakohwa.
