THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched investigations into a murder and attempted murder case that occurred on July 23, 2026, at Ngenisa Farm in Mbalabala, Esigodini, Matabeleland South Province.
In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said a 56-year-old woman, Tracy Simela, was killed during the attack.
According to police, two unknown male suspects armed with a knife and an axe allegedly attacked Simela and a 46-year-old man at the farm. The suspects reportedly stole an Oking cellphone, a Vodafone cellphone and US$20 in cash.
“The suspects allegedly assaulted the victims, poured petrol inside the cabin, locked them inside and set it on fire before fleeing into the bush,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
Simela died after being trapped in the burning cabin. The 46-year-old complainant managed to escape but sustained severe burns and is receiving treatment.
Police said investigations are underway to apprehend the suspects and urged members of the public with information to assist police with their investigations.
