THREE Zanu PF supporters were Tuesday hauled to the courts after they allegedly connived to cause havoc by reportedly sitting their legislator’s chair during a rally.
Brian Dzimiri, 36, Trust Chikomo, 32, and Zeckias Machabvunga, 62, appeared before Harare magistrate Tilda Mazhande charged with public violence.
They were not asked to plead and remanded to May 4 pending trial.
The trio were released on $50 bail each and ordered to refrain from interfering with state witnesses.
According to court papers, the incident occurred last Friday (April 8) in Ward 7 Overspill, Epworth, where Zanu PF Member of Parliament (MP) Zalera Makari was addressing supporters.
It is alleged that when Makari stood up and started addressing the gathering, the trio, in connivance with an accomplice who is still at large, hatched a plan to cause public violence.
One of the suspects reportedly sat on Makari’s chair which did not go down well with other Zanu PF supporters who charged towards the accused resulting in a commotion.
Prosecutors say the accused retaliated and attacked several people with clenched fists and booted feet, injuring some in the process.
Linda Gadzikwa appeared for the State.
