SUNDAY Chidzambwa, vice chairman of the national High Performance Committee (HPC), has challenged ZIFA to resolve the Warriors’ of allowances before they fly out to Gabon for the 2017 edition of the African Cup of Nations in January next year.
The HPC is expected to meet with the ZIFA leadership to present their recommendations ahead of the tournament.
Other HPC members include Moses Chunga, Rahman Gumbo, Innocent Chogugudza, Masimba Chihohwa and Taurai Mangwiro who is the Zifa technical director. Omega Sibanda chairs the committee.
Chidzambwa also said they would help Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa with advice ahead of the tournament.
He however, insisted that a line ought to be drawn between helping and interfering with the technical team.
“There should be a difference between helping and interfering with the technical team. Our role will be limited to just helping. We will not in any way interfere with his job.
“He should do his job without undue influence as he has always been doing. The coach needs the support of everyone,” said Chidzambwa.
The veteran coach – the first to qualify Zimbabwe to the African Cup of Nations finals since independence when he shepherded the Warriors to Tunisia in 2004 – also said issues of allowances for players must be addressed before the team flies out to Gabon.
“A situation whereby players go for a tournament before issues to do with their allowances has been resolved must be a thing of the past.
“We want that issue to be addressed before the team gets on the plane,” Chidzambwa said.
The Warriors were drawn in Group B alongside Algeria, Senegal and Tunisia in what is perhaps the toughest of all the groups.
