IN an unprecedented move, ZIFA referees committee has nullified the red card given to Dynamos star striker Christian Epoupa after he lost his temper and head butted Highlanders defender Peter Muduwa during the Castle Lager Premiership tie against the Bulawayo giants at Rufaro on Sunday.
Epoupa was sent off by referee Arnold Ncube three minutes from full time after the ugly incident.
The decision by the referee who was clearly overwhelmed by the occasion as he made the wrong calls on several occasions was met with disapproval by the Dynamos fans who felt the man in black should have sent off Godfrey Makaruse who had earlier slapped the Cameroonian on the head in an off the ball incident.
The match ended in a 1-1stalemate.
The red card meant Epoupa would miss the next two matches including the Harare derby against Caps United on Sunday.
Zifa issued a statement on Monday which reads: “The Zimbabwe football Association Referees Committee has rescinded the 87th minute sending off of Christian Joel Epoupa Ntouba during a Castle Lager Premier Soccer league match between Dynamos and Highlanders at Rufaro Stadium on 10 September 2017.
ZIFA president and Referees Committee Chairperson, Dr Phillip Chiyangwa announced the decision following extensive deliberations with members of the referees’ committee and several important football stakeholders.
We will not issue any further statement at this stage.”Advertisement
