HALMSTADS BK forward Matthew Rusike has cooled talk he could be on his way to Newcastle in the English premiership in January.
The Magpies have failed to find the net in six of their 11 games so far this season and face a battle to avoid relegation.
Coach Steve McLaren is on the lookout for attacking reinforcements in January and is reportedly keen on the Zimbabwe international.
Rusike only signed for Halmstads earlier this year – and he has scored four goals in 11 outings – but is free to leave the Swedish club following their relegation from the top flight.
However, the player was tight-lipped when asked if he had been in contact with Newcastle.
“No comment,” he replied.
“I am sure many teams have looked and many have seen me when the national team plays.
“I hope everything resolves itself for me and that Halmstads return straight away [to the top flight].”Advertisement
