ZIMBABWE have recalled promising off-spinner John Nyumbu for the one-day cricket series with New Zealand.
Nyumbi is one of four changes to the Zimbabwe squad as the selectors shuffle their stocks following the 3-0 ODI series loss to India.
Batsman Craig Ervine, pace bowler Chris Mpofu and all-rounder Luke Jongwe are others to find themselves back in favour in a 15-man squad named for the first two one-dayers.
The series against the Black Caps is over three matches with a Twenty20 match to follow. All games are in Harare.
Action starts this weekend with New Zealand having transferred to Zimbabwe from two warm-up matches in South Africa.
The 30-year-old Nyumbu made a stunning start to his international career when he collected five wickets on test debut against South Africa a year ago.
But he couldn’t match that form in the one-day arena and was dropped. However, he has staked his claim in the domestic league, helping the Matabeleland Tuskers win the title.
Wicketkeeper Richmond Mutumbami, batsman Malcolm Waller, and seamers Donald Tiripano and Brian Vitori were all dropped for the New Zealand series.
Zimbabwe squad for first two ODIs: Elton Chigumbura (captain), Chamu Chibhabha, Hamilton Masakadza, Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Regis Chakabva, Graeme Cremer, Prosper Utseya, Tinashe Panyangara, Christopher Mpofu, John Nyumbu, Vusi Sibanda, Luke Jongwe, Neville Madziva.Advertisement
