ZIMBABWE Revenue Authority (Zimra) officials are said to have raided Prophet Walter Magaya’s Waterfalls premises Friday seeking information on how the tycoon preacher amassed his massive wealth and if he was paying any tax from his money spinning ventures.

ZIMRA Commissioner-General Faith Mazani confirmed the raid at the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder’s premises and Yadah Hotel in Waterfalls but refused to give any further detail saying the matter was sensitive.

“This is a sensitive investigation and I cannot comment about it at the moment. It’s still an internal operation and as you can see a lot is happening. I still have to see the reports so that I will able to give out accurate information. For now I cannot confirm anything,” she was quoted on state media as having said.

Authorities have since closed in on some affluent locals who have amassed wealth using opaque means, asking them to explain how they sourced their riches.

These include flamboyant businessman Genius Kadungure who has since been arrested and charged over tax evasion claims to the tune of US$22 million.

Kadungure was last week remanded in custody to November 30, 2018.

Magaya (35) is a prosperity preacher of humble beginnings who now runs a money spinning church and is now owner of a graceful Harare hotel, a football team and has been dishing out funds to the country’s national football teams.

The beleaguered cleric has shown that money was no object to him when he purchased then First Lady Grace Mugabe’s biography for US$50 000 when the latter turned 50 in 2015.
