FC Platinum 2-0 ZPC Kariba
ZPC KARIBA’s hopes of landing the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in their maiden season in top flight football suffered a huge blow with a 0-2 loss to FC Platinum at Mandava on Saturday.
Two goals in the second half from ever improving Wisdom Mutasa and Simon Shoko poured water on their title aspirations.
The Saul Chaminuka coached side are now trailing champions and current log leaders Dynamos with two points but the latter has played a game less.
If Dynamos manage to beat Chapungu in the capital on Sunday they will be five points clear of ZPC Kariba with only four games still to be played before the season comes to an end.
FC Platinum clearly dominated their opponents from the outset.
Obrey Chirwa and Walter Musona came close in the opening four minutes but both failed to break the deadlock.
Mutasa was again to be latter denied by some heroic goalkeeping from Tonderai Mateyaungwa in goal for the visitors.
ZPC Kariba was denied meaningful chances at goal but Limited Chikafa and Tawanda Nyamandwe came close midway through the first half.
Moments after the resumption of the second half Mutasa got to the end of a Chirwa pass to slot home the opening goal.
Shoko sealed the victory with seven minutes left to play on the clock when he completed a brilliant move initiated by Tatenda Dzumbunu in midfield.
