ZPC Kariba take unbeaten run to Ascot

CASTLE Premiership leaders ZPC Kariba take their unbeaten run to Ascot Stadium in Gweru on Wednesday where they clash with Chapungu on Match Day 20.
ZPC lead the standings with 35 points, the same as defending champions Dynamos, but were dealt a rude reality check last weekend when they were knocked out of the Chibuku Super Cup by Harare City.
They lost 1-0 and with giants Dynamos (1-0) and Caps United (3-0) having previously lost there, ZPC knows what lies in store for them. Only Highlanders have managed a 0-0 draw there in the season opener.
Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino said their target for this season remains the same: to avoid relegation and will fight until the last drop to preserve their home status.
“We need points like in any other match we play because we have to avoid relegation at all costs,” he said.
“We are not looking at ZPC as unbeaten, we are just preparing for them like any other game and we will see what happens tomorrow (Wednesday).”
ZPC boss Saul Chaminuka said the cup loss to City gave them an opportunity to recharge their batteries and sort out some of their flaws.
At Rimuka, red hot Black Rhinos, who latest victims are Dynamos in the Chibuku Super Cup, host FC Platinum, who are starting life under Norman Mapeza.
Mapeza will be taking charge of his first league match after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bantu Rovers in the Chibuku first round.
A double header is in store in Hartsfield Rugby Grounds on Wednesday when Bantu take on Harare City while How Mine, also under a new coach Sheunesu Chaka, face Buffaloes in the second game of the afternoon.
On Thursday, Dynamos return to the National Sports Stadium to face Hwange, who beat them 1-0 in the reverse fixture while Highlanders will be at Hartsfield against Triangle seeking to revive their faltering season.
