The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is hosting its first CAF A coaching course since 2017, with the programme kicking off on Tuesday.
The course is being held at ZIFA Village and brings together a group of coaches seeking to attain the prestigious CAF A coaching qualification.
Among those enrolled are TelOne FC coach Joel Luphahla, former Warriors Under-20 coach Simon Marange, CAPS United legend David Sengu, three-time Northern Region Soccer League championship-winning coach Arthur Tutani and Scottland FC assistant coach Daniel Veremu.
The programme is expected to provide local coaches with advanced tactical and technical knowledge while equipping them with the required CAF A licence for elite coaching positions.
Commenting on the course, ZIFA technical director Dominic Niyozima said:
“We have achieved this; I did not do it by myself.
“I had to find a group of coach educators in the country to help me work on this and even had to consult some experts out of this country.
“It’s going to bring quality to our coaches, and then we will run away from what happened last year when one of our representatives in CAF competition did not sit on the bench because they did not have a CAF A coaching license.”
ZIFA last hosted a CAF A coaching course in 2017, making the latest programme an important development for the country’s coaching fraternity.
Zimbabwe currently has only 71 coaches who have attained the CAF A coaching qualification, which is now a mandatory requirement for coaches seeking to lead a local Premier Soccer League team.
