PREMIERSHIP giants Highlanders FC beat visiting army side Black Rhinos 2-1 while Caps United and Harare City played to a goalless draw in two separate encounters played Sunday afternoon.
In the match at Barbourfields stadium, Highlanders struck first after 36 minutes through Godfrey Makaruse only for Rhinos’ Lot Chiwunga to equalise after 48 minutes.
However, it took Highlanders just four minutes to restore their lead through speedy winger Gabriel Nyoni.
That was enough to earn the Bulawayo side its first set of three points in their renewed hunt for lost glory.
Meanwhile, at the National Sports Stadium, Caps United could only afford a single point against Harare City in a match that was also watched by Captain Hardlife Zvirekwi.
The Warriors defender, who had his hand amputated following a recent car accident, looked jovial as he cast a conspicuous figure in the terraces, even pausing for selfies with fans.
At Mandava Stadium, Shabanie Mine beat visiting Triangle by a goal to nil through a David Temwanjira goal after 55 minutes of play.
Following the first round of matches into the 2018 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League race, Highlanders are the only one of the three premiership heavyweights to emerge with a full set of points after Dynamos lost 0-1 to Chicken Inn on Saturday with Makepekepe opening their campaign with a draw.
