New FC Platinum coach Joel Luphahla says replacing long-serving coach Norman Mapeza comes with significant pressure, but it is a challenge he is ready to embrace.
Luphahla was unveiled as FC Platinum’s new head coach on Wednesday, succeeding Mapeza, who parted ways with the club at the end of the season.
Mapeza leaves behind a decorated legacy, having guided the Zvishavane side for ten and a half seasons, winning three league titles and two Chibuku Super Cup trophies.
Reflecting on the expectations that come with the job, Luphahla acknowledged the weight of taking over from such a successful predecessor.
“Coming here knowing that the previous coach did a tremendous job, I know it is going to be difficult. It’s not going to be easy; ten years a coach was here and people were used to him, with all his success. So coming here after all this, it’s not going to be easy for me,” he said.
Luphahla made his debut as a PSL head coach at Simba Bhora this year, leading the side to an impressive third-place finish.
He added, “I’m prepared for this challenge; that is why I signed a long-term contract. I don’t want to wake up tomorrow gone, I want to stay here and become part of the family”.
Luphahla has signed a three-year contract with an option to renew. He terminated his two-year deal at Simba Bhora after completing one season.
